The Honorary Consulate in Chicago provides guidance, forms, and community outreach. Passport processing and many fee collections are handled by the Embassy of Jamaica in Washington, D.C., or by a Consulate General. Our office can help you understand what applies to your request and where payment should be sent.
Services That May Involve Fees
Consular fees generally apply to official documents and applications rather than to general information requests. Common categories include:
- Passport applications, renewals, and replacements submitted to the Embassy or a Consulate General
- Jamaican visa applications, where required based on nationality and travel purpose
- Notarization and authentication of documents for use in Jamaica, as described on our Duties page
- Other consular services that require official review or certification
Application forms themselves are often free. The fee is tied to processing, certification, shipping, or the type of travel document requested.
Passport Fees
Passport applications in the United States are submitted to the Embassy of Jamaica in Washington, D.C., or to a Consulate General in New York or Miami. The Chicago office does not process passports on site, but we provide forms and instructions.

Visa Fees
Jamaican visa fees depend on the visa category and the applicant’s nationality. Visitor, business, student, and work-related visas may carry different charges. Some nationalities are visa-exempt for short visits, while others require advance approval.
See the country-by-country fee schedule on our Visas page. After downloading the visa application form, call our office at (773) 373-8988 for current fee instructions and a checklist of supporting documents. Two recent passport-size photographs are required with each visa application.
Accepted Payment Methods
For passport applications mailed to the Embassy or a Consulate General, personal checks are not accepted. Submit a money order or certified check made payable to the Embassy of Jamaica or the Consulate General of Jamaica, and include it with your completed form and supporting documents.
Write your name and contact details clearly on any payment instrument. If you are unsure which mission should receive your application, review the addresses on Passport Information or call our office before sending payment.
How to Confirm Your Fee Before You Apply
- Identify the service you need: passport, visa, notarization, or another consular request.

- Prepare the correct payment type and mail or deliver your package only to the mission named in the instructions.
Common Questions
Does the Chicago consulate collect passport fees in person?
No. Passport applications are processed by the Embassy in Washington, D.C., or by a Consulate General. Chicago provides forms and guidance. Payment goes with the mailed application unless you are instructed otherwise by the processing office.
Are consular fees refundable if my application is denied?
Processing fees are generally not refunded once an application has been accepted for review. If you have questions about a specific case, contact the mission handling your file.
